Learn How To Trade Options

Before you start learning how to trade options, you might want to know one or two things about options. Your online forex account gives you the possibility to trade options as well as commodities and currency. But what exactly is an option?

Options vs. shares ( or stocks)

Unlike holding shares in a company, a stock option is not a tangible entity. It is more like a contract between two parties. Owning of holding stocks (or shares) means literally owning a piece of a company. An option, on the other hand, is merely an agreement, or contract, where one party agrees to deliver something to another party within a specific time period and for a specific price.

Do you need to borrow options?

When learning how to trade options, you will see that with options, unlike stocks, you are not borrowing anything. Indeed, in order to short (sell) stock, you must first borrow it. With options there is nothing to borrow so you can short options without having to first borrow them.

Why are options popular?

Option trading is a very popular practice because ultimately, it provides the same results - or even better results - than stock trading and this with a much cheaper deposit. Entering an options contract is thus easier and potentially more profitable than buying stocks.

What is riskier, options or stocks?

At first, it seems that trading options is less risky than trading stocks, however, that may not always be the case. If you plan on trading options, make sure you understand the possible risk and downside of each trade. Also, in order to trade options, one must dedicate more time and attention to that, because option movements are very quick and before you know it, may be going in your favour or against you.
